EXTREME PRESSURE & LUBRICITY TESTER

1.0 SCOPE AND APPLICATION: The specification covers the minimum requirements for procurement of extreme pressure and lubricity tester to be used for testing and evaluation of various types of drilling fluids and lubricating additives by simulating the rotational speed of the drill pipe and the pressure it exerts against the borehole.
2.0 GENERAL FEATURES:
2.1 The extreme pressure tests shall be performed by applying a measured force with a torque wrench, to a torque sensitive rotating bearing cup to indicate the film strength of the fluid being tested.
2.2 The lubricity tester shall measure fluid resistance (lubricating character) between two moving hardened - steel surfaces at a hundred pounds force (which translates into a 5,000 to 10,000 psi on intermediate fluids film).
2.3 For extreme pressure/lubricity tests, the ring & block fitting shall be conveniently replaceable.
2.4 Power Supply: 230±10 volts, 50±1 Hz, single phase AC.
3.0 TECHNICAL FEATURES:
3.1 Code & Standards: All applicable, latest edition / version of Indian / International Standard may form part of this specification. In case of conflict, specifications and related standards shall take precedence in the order. Latest version shall form the part of specifications.
3.2 Technical Parameters:
3.2.1 Torque arm: The torque arm shall be provided with the torque meter and be suitably designed so that extreme pressure/lubricity test rings can be easily loaded / unloaded.
a. Torque range: 0 - 600 inch-pounds with least count 10 inch pound b. Torque limit: up to 350 inch-pounds.
3.2.2 Lubricity/film strength meter
a. The meter provided shall be calibrated in rpm/torque to measure speed/torque
· Speed range: 0 - 1000 rpm with least count 20 rpm
· Torque range: 0 - 50 with least count 1.0
b. A linear variable speed control knob shall be provided to regulate the speed.
3.2.3 A sample cup with diameter of 11.5 cm approx. & height 5 cm approx, made of corrosion resistance stainless steel, shall be provided with the equipment.
3.2.4 The stainless steel main shaft provided shall be fitted on bearings from both sides and shall be suitable to withstand torque up to 350 inch pounds.
3.2.5 Motor
a. The motor shall be suitable to transmit 60 rpm on 150 inch pounds and 1000 rpm on 350 inch pounds load.
b. The speed shall remain invariably constant on applying torque up to 350 inch pounds at
60 - 1000 rpm.
c. The motor shall be compact and suitable to work continuously without overheating till
completion of the experiment.
d. A belt or any other suitable mechanism shall be provided for speed transmission from motor to main shaft.
